Haughey makes short work of 50m freestyle for silver

Hong Kong, China "flying fish" Siobhan Haughey added another medal to her impressive Asian Games campaign in Japan, powering to a silver finish in the women's 50m freestyle. While the distance is not her strongest event, Haughey touched the wall in 24.32 seconds, falling just short of her own Hong Kong record of 24.30 seconds. The national team's Wu Qingfeng broke the Games record with a time of 23.98 seconds to take gold, while her teammate Cheng Yujie claimed bronze to round out the podium. Another SAR representative, Li Sum-yiu, finished sixth. In a post-race interview, Haughey said she was very satisfied with her performance, adding she enjoyed competing in the 50 free despite having limited time to train for it. The Olympic medallist went on to say that she was pleased with her overall campaign in Japan, having had to cope with injuries during her pre-Games preparations and compete through illness after arriving in the country.
