Smooth start in phased opening of Kai Tak Hospital

The chief executive of Kai Tak Hospital, Eric Cheung, on Monday said the facility was running smoothly on its first day of operation. Speaking after inspecting the hospital in the morning, he said a family medicine centre was among the first of its services to open – offering another healthcare option for residents in the Kowloon Central cluster. “There are a total of 350 quotas for today (Monday), and as far as I know, this morning about 290 something quotas have been booked, so there are still a small number of quotas left for today," Cheung said of allotments for family medicine services. “We will be starting our service gradually. "On October 26, we will be moving our specialist outpatient clinics of surgery and neurosurgery to this place to start service, and on November 12, we will be moving our biggest specialty to start service here – that’s the department of medicine.” Cheung said the hospital had not received any complaints from patients, with most of them able to find their way to the hospital. Patients praised the new hospital's smooth operations, convenient transport connections and good environment.
