Chief Executive John Lee on Tuesday urged residents to pay attention to the three-day debate on Hong Kong's first five-year plan and the 2026 Policy Address in the Legislative Council. Lawmakers will commence a joint debate on motions involving the two policy blueprints on Wednesday. Speaking ahead of the weekly Executive Council meeting, Lee said people would gain a better understanding of both key policy documents by listening to the discussions. “The chief secretary will lead a team of government officials to engage in the debate with lawmakers," he said. "I ask you all to pay attention to the debate to get a better understanding of the significance of the five-year plan and how we work to implement its first-year objectives under the Policy Address.” Lee also reiterated the five main goals outlined in the five-year plan: making economic breakthroughs, enhancing the city’s international competitiveness, spearheading the development of the Northern Metropolis, improving people's livelihoods, as well as integrating with and serving national development strategies.
