New part of Central Kowloon Bypass to open on Dec 6

Transport minister Mable Chan on Wednesday said the Kowloon Bay section of the Central Kowloon Bypass would open to traffic on December 6. Following the opening of the Yau Ma Tei section of the bypass in December last year, this marks the full commissioning of the entire Route 6 that comprises the bypass and the Tseung Kwan O - Lam Tin Tunnel. Speaking at a meeting of the Legislative Council’s Panel on Transport, Chan said final preparations were underway for the launch. Authorities had been conducting system testing and fire safety inspections in recent months, she said. “The full opening of the Route 6 will establish a transport link connecting West Kowloon, East Kowloon and Tseung Kwan O,” Chan said. “It will shorten the travel time from the current 65 minutes – before the commissioning of Route 6 – to just 12 minutes.” The Secretary for Transport and Logistics also told lawmakers that the Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles scheme has been popular among Hong Kong people. Under the merger conditions, the watchdog required the airlines to maintain seat capacity on designated routes at no less than 90 percent of corresponding 2019 levels.
