Some people gathered early at Victoria Park on Friday afternoon to view the lantern displays and beat the Mid-Autumn Festival rush. The Mid-Autumn Lantern Carnival has drawn large crowds since opening on September 17, with long queues forming during peak evening viewing hours. One visitor said she arrived during the day to appreciate the finer details of the lanterns. “I think this year's display is quite special as it includes both Chinese elements and elements from around the world. I think the Chinese lanterns are quite beautiful; their craftsmanship is very intricate,” she said. “There are fewer crowds now.” “Because even if you go in [at night], there will be a huge crowd of people, and you won't be able to see the details – you'll only be able to experience the atmosphere.” She added that she plans to return at night in the future to see how the lanterns look when they are lit up.
