A lawmaker said on Friday that lists of contractors and consultants pre‑approved for major building renovations could offer flat owners practical support, raise maintenance standards and curb illicit practices. Andrew Lam's remarks come at a time when the Development Bureau is in the process of drawing up lists of pre-approved contractors and consultants, with the first batch expected by the end of 2026. Speaking on RTHK's Backchat programme, he said the lists could raise overall standards in the building maintenance sectors. "The key [of the pre-approved lists] is to provide better systems to small owners and to better regulate practices to ensure that the kind of quality on the building management works could be up to a reasonable extent and also to minimise the risk of bid-rigging," he said. With multiple construction projects planned under the city's Five‑Year plan, Lam, chairman of Legislative Council's development panel, said he hoped the move could help minimise the potential of any major risks resulting from building management or maintenance work in the future.
