Alexandra Eala headlines Hong Kong Tennis Open lineup

World No 18 Alexandra Eala from the Philippines – who clinched her maiden WTA Tour title at the Washington Open – is set to headline a 32-player singles draw at the upcoming Hong Kong Tennis Open. The WTA 250 tournament, which boasts a total prize purse of more than US$280,000, will run from October 31 to November 8 at Victoria Park. At a press conference, the Hong Kong, China Tennis Association revealed that China’s top-ranked player Wang Xinyu, former world No 2 Paula Badosa of Spain, and Russia’s world No 13 Diana Shnaider will also feature in the event. Local favourite Eudice Chong, who became the first player from Hong Kong to win a WTA Tour doubles title after her victory at the Morocco Open in May, is set to return to the doubles draw. Meanwhile, local rising stars Adithya Karunaratne and Yandy Shek have been awarded wildcards for the singles event. Ticket sales will open at 3pm on September 28 via the online platform Ticketflap, with prices ranging from HK$180 to HK$1,070. Full-time students, seniors aged 60 or above, and young people aged 18 or under can enjoy a 50-percent discount on Category 2 tickets. Edited by Aaron Tam
