Summer camps have been one of the most popular educational alternatives for children of all ages, as they offer plenty of opportunities to interact with their peers, engage in hands-on learning activities, and explore various new places.

Pear Tree Education announced a new summer camp program for the 2017 season to be held in Vancouver beginning on July 4th until September 1st. Enrollment for the Pearl Tree summer camps has officially opened and is currently available through the above-mentioned website.

The summer camps will be held at the Pear Tree Education center in Kitsilano, Vancouver, a state-of-the-art private school featuring various educational services in a wide range of academic fields. The camp courses start 9 am and end at 3 pm, with optional pre-camp and after-camp supervision services available.

Each summer camp will be organized in groups of maximum 15 similar-aged children (series include 5-6, 7-9 and 10-14 age groups), and coordinated by a fully-qualified and experienced teacher and a classroom assistant for younger classes. The curricula are designed to balance indoor and outdoor learning times, offering various hands-on learning opportunities throughout the program.

Each week offers various summer camp opportunities for all age groups, with summer camps being designed to provide extensive education on a wide range of age-appropriate topics. Such themes include marine biology, graphic novels, medieval history, painting, entrepreneurial education, photography and film, sports sciences and many others.

Optional hot lunch is also available, as well as professional pre-camp and after-camp care.

Number of foreigners in Korea reaches 2.8 million in August

The number of foreign nationals in Korea reached 2.87 million last month, up 5.3 percent from a year earlier, government data showed Saturday. As of end-August, long-term foreign residents stood at 2.25 million, while those on short-term stays, including tourists, came to 629,406, according to immigration data from the justice ministry. By nationality, Chinese nationals accounted for the largest share of 34.6 percent, or 995,562 people, followed by Vietnamese at 383,244 and Americans at 181,325. While the total number of foreign nationals rose from 2.73 million in August 2025, last month's figure marked a decline from 2.9 million in July. Among the 1.64 million registered foreign nationals in Korea, 51.5 percent of them lived in the greater Seoul area, followed by 21.3 percent in the southeastern provinces of North and South Gyeongsang. The number of foreigners has steadily risen since 2021 when the figure dropped below 2 million amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Highways congested on Chuseok holiday as people return home

Major roads and expressways were congested across South Korea on Saturday, the third day of the Chuseok holiday, as people began heading back to their home after visiting their hometowns.
