Murder of Abby Choi premeditated, court heard

The High Court on Friday heard that the murder of celebrity Abby Choi was premeditated. The three defendants – Choi’s ex-husband Kwong Kong-chi, her former brother-in-law Kwong Kong-kit and her former father-in-law Kwong Kau – were charged with murdering Choi on February 21, 2023 at Lung Mei Village in Tai Po, and with preventing the lawful burial of her body. Continuing with its opening statement, the prosecution showed multiple screenshots from CCTV footage and receipts, alleging Kwong Kau and Kwong Kong-kit purchased various items from different locations, including a hammer, a chainsaw and several pairs of gloves. The prosecution asked the jurors to hold the hammer – the suspected murder weapon – so they could feel its weight and determine whether it could cause fatal trauma. It alleged that on February 21, 2023, Choi travelled with Kwong Kong-chi in a car driven by Kwong Kong-kit to pick up her daughter from school. But the prosecution suggested that she was already knocked unconscious, or even killed, in the vehicle. CCTV footage showed the vehicle then travelled to Lung Mei Village, where the defendants loaded a large plastic box onto the car and later carried it inside a unit.
