Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un visited the Chinese border city of Dandong on Saturday, crossing a newly opened bridge. Upon his arrival, Kim was met by China's top political advisor Wang Huning, who conveyed greetings from President Xi Jinping, according to Xinhua news agency. Kim crossed via the New Yalu River Bridge, a major border crossing that officially opened last week, deepening economic ties between China and the DPRK. The three-kilometre bridge is the most significant land border crossing between both countries. During a meeting, Wang told Kim that China was ready to use the bridge's opening to expand personnel exchanges and economic and trade cooperation, Xinhua said. CCTV reported that Kim took part in a memorial service to pay tribute to martyrs of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army and visited an automobile factory. His visit came a day before the anniversary of China joining the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, in 1950. Wang saw Kim off at the bridge at the end of the trip, Xinhua reported.
